Matt Schultz is a lifelong Alaskan and Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the upcoming November election. Schultz spoke with The Northern Light about his belief in dedication to consistency and the motivations of his campaign.
Schultz said he is basing his campaign on addressing the cost of living, access to healthcare and freedom of faith.
“I have a history of serving people without making billions,” said Schultz.
Schultz said he believes there are ethical issues deeply rooted in Washington D.C., adding, “politicians are forgetting they speak for the people, not themselves.”
Schultz said his personal ethics have remained consistent throughout his life, and said consistency reveals a lot about a candidate.
Schultz said he will rely on a support system of family, friends and his children to help ensure his policies and decisions remain consistent with his values.
“I keep my kids in mind as I make decisions. They are the ones inheriting the problems caused today. I want to make the future better for them and others,” said Schultz.
Schultz encouraged voters to reach out to him as he values the engagement with Alaska residents. He said he has plans to travel to communities across Alaska to hear voter concerns. Schultz recently held a town hall meeting with Bill Hill to reiterate his desire to engage with voters.
“At the end of the day, I have been consistent,” said Schultz. “I have lived the Alaskan life.”
Schultz has a website for the public to find more information about his candidacy.
