Democratic candidate and former Alaska House representative, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins announced his run for governor in February. Kreiss-Tomkins spoke to The Northern Light about spending time outdoors and maintaining balance in a political campaign.
Kreiss-Tomkins said that he is able to stay grounded because of nature and enjoys white water floating. He added that he was previously a long distance runner before he broke his leg.
Kreiss-Tomkins said the balance between being outdoors and the responsibilities of his campaign comes down to setting priorities.
As the August primary approaches, he said his focus is on the campaign and people of Alaska.
“We are fully focused on the Alaskan people,” said Kriess-Tomkins. “We are going full speed with full focus on the campaign.”
Drawing on his experience from representing House District 35 from 2013 to 2023, Kreiss-Tomkins said he has developed close relationships with rural communities. The district includes several rural villages and communities across Southeast Alaska.
Kreiss-Tomkins mentioned his history of working across party lines. “I am the candidate who wants to make generational change.”
