The 2026 Anchorage Transportation Fair took place at the Alaska Airlines Center on April 22.
The free event brought several government agencies together to present transit-related projects to the public.
“This event is put on so that we can be transparent with the individuals that we serve,” said Robespierre Howard, Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator at the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities.
Howard sat behind a display table and explained the department’s responsibilities.
“We want to make sure that the individuals out here are aware of the projects, aware of their rights, aware of who we are,” said Howard.
Bicycle, pedestrian and traffic calming coordinator Donovan Camp at the Municipality of Anchorage said, “Public involvement is a really important part of any transportation project, getting early community buy-in and input really helps create the best projects for the public.”
Camp said events such as the transportation fair give the public an interactive experience that allows them to walk around and observe the different projects.
People Mover planning and communications manager Isabella Zamarron said, “I think it gives the average citizen the opportunity to have that transparency piece.”
“When we dig into what the city is doing for them, it gives them a different view that they may not normally see,” she said.
