Conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during an outdoor event at the Utah Valley University campus on Sept. 10.
Authorities announced on Sept. 12 that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was a suspect in the assassination of Kirk, according to CBS. Robinson appears to have confessed to the assassination online before turning himself in, as reported by The Washington Post.
Kirk was the founder of the nonprofit organization Turning Point USA, which promotes conservative perspectives across more than 800 college campuses in the United States.
The Northern Light reached out to the UAA chapter of Turning Point USA for a comment on the death of Kirk. The president of the chapter redirected reporters to a spokesperson from a public relations organization named The ATK Company, who did not respond.
The assassination sparked discussion around the world, including comments from political leaders such as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump.
On Sept. 11, Trump said he had an obligation to attend Kirk's funeral in Arizona the following weekend, according to CNN.
