Thrifty officer gives two-for-one ride to jail

4:58 a.m. – While transporting a prisoner to jail, an officer saw a highly intoxicated man falling into the street. Two officers contacted the man and determined that he was in violation of conditions of his probation. The officers arrested the man and transported him to the Anchorage jail.

UPD helps jog vehicle owner’s bad memory

4:26 p.m. – An individual came to UPD because they could not find their vehicle. Two officers responded and located the vehicle in the south parking lot.


Tuesday, Feb. 13

Officer escorts intoxicated woman home
While on Bragaw Street, an officer observed an intoxicated female. The officer contacted the woman and then provided her with a courtesy transport to her residence.

Late student has excellent elevator excuse
10:13 a.m. – A student called and said that they were stuck in the East Hall elevator at the second floor. Maintenance was advised, as well as Otis Elevator. The East Hall resident coordinator responded and told officers they were able to open the door enough for the student to exit the elevator.

Mouse escapes from staff member office

12:39 a.m. – A staff member called to report a missing computer mouse from an office at Rasmuson Hall. An officer responded and is investigating.

Student succumbs to auto diesel sickness

8:46 p.m. – An off-duty officer called to report that a person was ill in the Auto Diesel Technology Building. An officer and Anchorage Fire Department medics responded and took him to Providence Alaska Medical Center.

Wednesday, Feb. 14

Staff member’s office laptop disappears

12:53 a.m. – A staff member called and reported the theft of a laptop computer from room 228 of the Professional Studies Building. An officer responded and is investigating.


Thursday, Feb. 15

Pregnant wife prompts man to beg for ride
5:15 a.m. – A citizen came to UPD and requested a ride to his home as his vehicle had broken down and his wife was in labor. The man was provided the courtesy transport.


Saturday, Feb. 17

Trip over the median ends with trip to jail
12:53 p.m. – While on patrol at Residential Drive, two officers observed a vehicle drive over the median. The officers pulled over the vehicle and determined the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol, had no proof of insurance and had an outstanding warrant with the Anchorage Police Department for contempt of court. The officers arrested the man and took him to UPD for processing. The suspect was brought to a magistrate and remanded to the Anchorage jail. Citations were issued for driving over a median and no proof of insurance.

Driver barely misses patrol car, hits jail cell

3:22 a.m. – While on patrol on UAA Drive and Northern Lights Boulevard, an officer observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light and nearly hit his patrol car. The officer pulled over the vehicle and determined that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a suspended license. The subject was arrested and transported to UPD for processing. He was then transported to a magistrate and remanded to the Anchorage jail.

Precious cargo lifted from student’s vehicle

6:40 p.m. – A student called to report that their vehicle had been broken into while parked in the West campus central parking lot and property had been removed. An officer responded and is investigating. Estimated loss is $1,300.

Officer sniffs out concert-going pothead

7:51 p.m. – While on detail at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium, an officer noticed the odor of marijuana emanating from a person. The officer contacted the person, who then admitted to having and smoking the substance. The officer arrested the subject for minor in control of an illegal substance and confiscated the drugs and pipe for evidence. The defendant was issued a summons to appear and released.
