Weeknight warriors

There were no surprise upsets as the coed-intramural season for basketball and volleyball came to an end Nov. 12. The top-seeded teams took home the championship t-shirts, leaving the runners-up to try again next semester.

In the basketball tournament, Dirty Dozen beat second-ranked Sand Lake Slim, 66-59, in the hotly contested championship. Dirty Dozen cruised to the final, defeating Leftovers, 83-53, in the first round and Gotta Shoot, 79-55, in the second and finished with a record of 16-1 overall.

On the volleyball side, the Villagers survived an early scare from North Hall 1 to win, 32-30, 30-15. The Villagers had an easy path to the final. They received a first-round bye before defeating North Hall 2, 30-25, 30-20, in the second round and finished with an overall record of 16-0.

The intramural tournament madness is not over yet. The soccer tournament will conclude with the champion crowned Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. In second-round action Nov. 20, Full Force will face Gnar Gnar and The Greeks will meet International to decide who plays for the title.

For those looking for individual glory, the Not-So-Great Alaska Shootout, a basketball shooting competition, will be held on Nov. 25 from 7-10 p.m. Also the 3-on-3 basketball and 4-on-4 volleyball tournaments will be at 7-10 p.m. on Dec. 2 and 3, respectively.
