Volleyball team stuck in rut on road

The road is not a friendly place for UAA’s volleyball team.

The Seawolves (9-7, 3-5 GNAC) have lost five consecutive road matches and five of their last six overall matches after dropping a pair of games to conference rival Seattle Pacific and Western Washington Oct. 1 and 2.

The Seawolves didn’t win a single game all weekend.

Against the Falcons, UAA lost in three quick games 30-25, 30-24, 30-19. In the Seawolves’ worst loss of the season, they got eight kills from Carolyn DeKay and Jenny Mitchell but only hit .095 as a team. Seattle Pacific’s top hitter was Chelsey Myers with 10 kills.

Things didn’t get much better Saturday as the Vikings won their 23rd straight match at Carver Gymnasium, which is one win shy of the school’s all-time mark. UAA fell 30-20, 30-13, 30-24. DeKay lead UAA hitters with nine kills. By contrast WWU got 24 kills from Brianna Murray and 15 from Megan Evoy.

The road trip continues Oct. 9 with a match against in-state rival University of Alaska Fairbanks.
