WOODLAND, Calif. – Five Alaska Anchorage gymnasts were honored for their classroom success Thursday as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced its 2014 Women’s Gymnastics All-Academic Team.

Seawolf sophomores Marie-Sophie Boggasch and Simone Penker were two of just three MPSF gymnasts to carry perfect 4.00 overall grade-point averages, along with Sacramento State junior Dallas Smith. Boggasch, a vault and bars specialist from Schwarzenbach am Wald, Germany, is an aviation technology major, while Penker, a three-event performer from Maria Saal, Austria, is a natural sciences major.

The European duo was joined on the team by fellow UAA sophomores Stefany Bryan (3.77, English, Seattle/Roosevelt HS) and Nicole Wetzel (3.75, psychology/Keller, Texas), and junior captain Morgan Cook (3.06, psychology, Hot Springs, Ark./Lakeside HS).

To be eligible, a student-athlete must carry a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA, be in at least her second season, and compete in at least 50 percent of meets.
