Tuton named team captain

UAA head hockey coach Dave Shyiak announced today that incoming senior forward Jared Tuton has been named team captain for the upcoming 2009-10 season. In addition to Tuton, forwards Josh Lunden and Kevin Clark, and defenseman Nils Backstrom have been selected as the team’s assistant captains.
A local of Whitehorse, Yukon, Tuton dressed for UAA in 32 games last season for a combined 103 total. As an assistant captain during the 2008-09 season, Tuton registered one goal and five assists, helping the Seawolves to their best season under Shyiak.
Lunden, a native of Coquitlam B.C., will represent UAA as an assistant for the second time, while Clark (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Backstrom (Stocksund, Sweden) will take on the responsibility for the first time.
“These players are very deserving in this leadership position. All four individuals represent our program well in all facets,” Shyiak said. “We are looking forward to next season.”
All four captain appointments are voted on by the Seawolf team with additional input from the coaching staff.
