Track team continually improving times

Senior David Kiplagat earned a trip to the 2009 NCAA Div. II Nationals after posting a automatic qualifying time of 9:01.67 in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational on March 27.
After provisionally qualifying for Nationals two weekends ago with a time of 9:21.93, Kiplagat improved by just over twenty seconds, bypassing the required time of 9:09.00. The time, which registered a 4th place finish in section 2 of the event, also set Kiplagats career-best–previous was 9:07.20– and improved upon the UAA school record held by him.
Sophomore newcomer Marko Cheseto improved upon his automatic qualifying time and UAA record in the 5000 m with a time of 14:02.45. This time placed Cheseto third in section 2 of the 5000.
Setting a season-best in the 400 m was junior James McLaughlin. McLaughlin, the fastest UAA 400 runner this season, was clocked at 49.24 seconds, besting his previous season-best of of 49.69.
On the women’s side senior Elizabeth Chepkosgei finished the 5000 in 10th in section 4 with a time of 17:29.14
