Through Our Eyes annual exhibit opens
The Student Union gallery is now showing an exhibition by the Camera Club called Through Our Eyes. The reception was Wednesday Sept. 28 and the show will continue to run through Oct. 19. Cody Swanson is the former President of the Camera Club and he says any Camera Club member has the opportunity to submit art.
“Any member may submit. This includes former students who are part of the club… We have eight participating members in this year’s Through Our Eyes exhibition,” Swanson said.
Through Our Eyes is an annual exhibit held by the Camera Club and it typically has a theme to guide the exhibition.
“Through Our Eyes is a way for members of the Camera Club to share their work with the community,” Swanson said. “Over the years, we have had members with experience exhibiting their work as well as members who are exhibiting for the first time. We usually have an open theme as this allows for a diverse collection of perspectives and processes. This year, we have members working in photographic processes ranging from the cyanotype process developed in the mid-1800s to more modern processes such as mobile photography and digital manipulation.”
Swanson also submitted work for the exhibit this year, and he used this showing as a way to experiment with different types of photography.
“This year I submitted two prints made using film in a plastic camera and two prints using the iPhone,” Swanson said. “I experiment with a variety of processes, and Through Our Eyes is a great way to share some of the work I am making. I like to make images that hold a sense of mystery. I hope that viewers are able to get lost in the worlds I create and interpret the images in a way that is meaningful for them.”
Interested students are still able to join the Camera Club this semester with the payment of a small fee.
“We have members joining throughout the semester, so our roster continues to grow.” Swanson said. “To become a member, current UAA students pay $20 per semester and non-students pay $50.”
The Student Union gallery is open for walk-ins from Monday through Thursday 9-6 and 9-4 on Friday.
