Exploring Alaska’s vast landscape, whether on land or by water, can be a fun and exciting time. The Anchorage bowl and the Mat-Su Valley offer a great number of trails to be explored for hiking and biking. The University of Alaska Anchorage’s Student Union Gear Room provides students with equipment at a reasonable price. For example, want to go mountain biking but cannot afford a bike? At the Gear Room, students can rent a mountain bike for $15 a day, or $60 a week.
For the adventurers who want to go hiking and camping, the Gear Room provides and expedition tents for $10 a day and $40 a week. Backpacks cost $2 a day and $8 a week. Need a cooler and a stove to store your food for camping? One may also find coolers and stoves available for rent as well.
Finally for those wanting to explore the many rivers, lakes and bays Alaska has to offer, the Gear Room offers both double and single kayaks, and canoes. The Gear Room beats most places in the area for kayak and canoe rentals with weekly rates. A majority of the off-campus kayak and canoe rentals are rented hourly or daily.
