This week will be the second of regular season hockey for the Seawolves. The Brice Goal Rush will take place on Saturday the Oct.16 and Sunday Oct. 17 at UAF.  For this event, the Nanooks will host the Seawolves along with the Robert Morris University Colonials and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers.

The Seawolves as well as the Nanooks both got their season started this past weekend with the Kendall Classic at the Sullivan arena, to warm up for this series as well as the regular season.

The RPI Engineers hail from Troy, NY. The Engineers also started their season last week with games against UMass and New Hampshire.

“It’s early in the season and an exciting time for everyone,” Head Coach Seth Appert said.

The Engineers did well last year making it through the first round of playoffs and a three game showing in round two. Last season they averaged 1.95 goals per game.

They added five freshmen to the squad this year. Jerry D’Amigo and Brandon Pirri are both talented newcomers this season. Also keep an eye on defensemen Mike Burgin and sophomore goalie Allen York.

The Colonials of Robert Morris University from Moon Township, Pa. are a fairly new team; this is their sixth season. Coach Derek Schooley has been with the team the whole time and has produced a 59-94-20 record after five seasons, 10-19-7 last season.

“Win more games, that’s our goal,” said Schooley.

The Colonials have 18 returning players this year making for a relatively experienced team. Top scorers Nathan Longpre and Denny Urban, both juniors, are notable players as is All-Rookie team member and sophomore goaltender Brooks Ostergard.

This will be the Colonials first regular season outing.
