Seawolf gymnast team improves, but not enough

In a two-meet showdown of fellow Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rivals, UAA’s gymnastic squads registered two losses to the University of California-Davis Aggies.

The Seawolves steadily improved over the course of the weekend, raising their score of 187.300 on Jan. 25 by a little over two-and-a-half points (189.850) on Jan. 27, trailing the Aggies by only two-tenths of a point.

Led by solid freshman efforts, Kelsey Fullerton would take first in the floor exercise on Friday and tie for first in the same event on Sunday. Fellow freshman Leah Wilson would improve from a ninth-place showing on the vault Friday to a win on Sunday (9.775).

Junior Brooke Nall also saw steady improvement over the course of the weekend, upping her initial career best on the balance beam of 9.6 on Friday to 9.725 on Sunday.

The Seawolf women head out of town to face New Hampshire (with Brown and Bridgeport) on Feb. 1. They return home for two duels against Illinois State on Feb. 15 and 17.
