Powerline Pass run tests trail runners

One hundred and twenty runners tested their mettle Saturday in the first ever Powerline Pass trail run. The race, a fund-raiser for the University of Alaska Anchorage ski team, started at the Indian Valley trailhead and finished 11 miles later at the Glen Alps parking lot.

Josh Sherven won the men’s race in 1 hour, 29 minutes, 30 seconds. Jens Beck took second in 1:30:06. UAA dual-sport athletes Brent Knight (1:33:19) and Eric Strabel (1:33:36) took fourth and fifth.

Najeeby Quinn led the women’s field in 1:45:05. Rachel Steer was second in 1:46:54 and Nicole DeYong, a sophomore on UAA’s cross-country and Nordic ski team, was third in 1:49:40.
