The first play to come to UAA this fall semester is Neil LaBute's "Fat Pig," directed by student Christina Ashby. If there is one thing that needs to be said about this play, it is that it's a show absolutely worth attending. Put on by the UAA theatre club, Theatre on the Rocks, the play is student run with the cast and crew all enrolled in UAA classes.
When most people think of pirates these days, they think of swashbuckling adventurers who are a thing of the past. It's not Fourth Avenue, but The Blue Fox Cocktail Lounge and Restaurant in Tudor Square on East Tudor between Dale Street and Florina is more than your grandfather's watering hole. Being a short walk from the UAA dorms, this aptly proportioned establishment lends itself easily as a destination for the campus dwelling college student and is well worth the trip to those living in any of the four corners of Anchorage's sprawling city limits.
Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter 5/5 stars This full-bodied dark ale serves as one of the front-runners for Anchorage's own Midnight Sun Brewing Co. Over the years, Arctic Rhino has won awards twice at Denver's Great American Beer Festival, and it does not take even a pint of this draft to appreciate why.
'Future Islands' set to come to Alaska Psychedelia, prepare for a revival because the post-wave band known as Future Islands is coming to Alaska for three performances in the south central area. If someone likes the retro sounds of synthesizers and the most out-there vocals, then Future Islands is the band to listen to.
Lackthereof have more albums than they have ever played shows. This isn't a product of poor managing but really because Lackthereof is a project that Danny Seim does out of his basement. His first six albums were handed out on CD-Rs to friends and family.
