Acoustic band Ryanhood plays Student Union

Ryan Green and Cameron Hood of the acoustic guitar duo Ryanhood took center stage in the Student Union Cafeteria on Friday, Oct. 20, with Evan Phillips as the opening act. The Campus Activities Magazine hails the duo as "one of the hottest new bands in the college market today." Ryanhood is one of the most sought-after bands at colleges around the country. They've opened for Better Than Ezra and Reel Big Fish and recently toured with Jason Mraz, where they received wide applause. Green and Hood combined their musical talent in 2003. Three years later, the duo went from performing in subway stations to touring with platinum-selling artists. Ryanhood is currently recording their follow-up album with Grammy-winning producer Ross Hogarth.

National Alcohol Awareness Week Fair supports awareness on campus

The Student Union Hallway was packed with tables and interested students on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Each table provided information regarding alcohol awareness. One activity included safety cones set up in the hallway for students to try their luck at bowling while wearing drunk goggles. An assortment of "mocktails" was also available. Alcoholics Anonymous provided a discussion in the Lyla Richards Conference Room, offering help and support to families and friends of problem drinkers. The National Alcohol Awareness Week Fair highlighted the proclamation recently signed by Chancellor Elaine Maimon, Mayor Mark Begich and USUAA President Anthony Rivas that continues support of alcohol awareness.
