Monday, Jan. 16

Trespass on MLK day

7:50 a.m. €" A faculty member reported the north doors to the Rasmuson Hall were unlocked on Martin Luther King Day. The responding officer found three subjects trespassing inside the spine between the Rasmuson Hall and Wells Fargo Sports Complex. One of the individuals had an outstanding arrest warrant with the APD.

Bumping the wrong button

11:38 a.m. €" UPD received a call from the emergency telephone in the East Hall elevator with no one on the other end of the line. The responding UPD officer contacted two students who said they may have bumped the phone's emergency button while they were in the elevator.

 

Tuesday, Jan. 17

Careless student confesses crash

11:35 a.m. €" A student turning into the west lot from the Short lot hit another vehicle and called UPD to report the accident. The responding officer gave the student a citation for failing to exercise due care.

Smoking in the boys' room

4:28 €" A staff employee reported finding drug paraphernalia in a Student Union bathroom. The responding officer collected the materials and stored them as evidence.

Fire extinguisher released in East

10:06 p.m. €" The East Hall resident adviser reported the fire extinguisher on the fourth floor hallway had been discharged. A UPD officer responded and called maintenance staff, who cleaned up the discharge.

 

Wednesday, Jan. 18

Risky business

4:36 p.m. €" A staff member at the bookstore reported a man trying to sell books that did not appear to belong to him at the textbook buyback. A UPD officer responded, but the man was already gone.

Visitor views Alaska hit and run

3:51 p.m. €" A visitor reported seeing a vehicle back into another vehicle in the parking lot south of the Wells Fargo Sports Complex and drive away. The responding UPD officer found the suspect in the sports complex and issued the suspect a citation for leaving the scene of an accident. The owner of the other car was notified of the incident.

 

Thursday, Jan. 19

Student suspects theft of misplaced car

7:15 p.m. €" A student reported his vehicle had either been stolen or towed while parked in the library parking lot. The two responding officers found the driver's car in the library parking lot.

 

Friday, Jan. 20

Violent fight at West Hall

1:13 a.m. €" The resident counselor for North Hall reported a domestic disturbance between a male and female at West Hall. The two responding officers determined an assault had occurred, arrested the male subject and transported him to the magistrate.

Double whammy driver nails post

5:27 a.m. €" A staff member reported a vehicle in the ditch near Providence Drive and Alumni Loop. The vehicle had hit a light post on campus. The responding UPD officer determined the vehicle was involved in an earlier hit-and-run incident occurring off-campus, and the officer contacted APD, who responded. Maintenance staff disconnected electricity from the light post for the vehicle to be towed. The driver called UPD at 2:23 p.m. to claim responsibility for the vehicle.

Mysterious ringing alarms officer

12:06 p.m. €" A patrolling UPD officer reported an alarm coming from the Bear Necessities store in the Commons. The officer contacted the store manager, who said the sound was coming from a personal alarm clock.

Wife and state keep tabs on student

9:02 a.m. €" The wife of a student requested a welfare check for her husband due to dangerous circumstances. The Alaska State Troopers also requested a welfare check for the student. The responding UPD officer contacted the student, and advised him to contact his home.

 

Saturday, Jan. 21

Snow-car nearly smacks squad car

4:52 p.m. €" A patrolling UPD officer was almost backed into by a snow-covered vehicle in the short parking lot. The officer stopped the driver of the snow-covered vehicle, issued them a verbal warning for unsafe backing and obstruction of vision and gave the driver a citation for having no proof of insurance.

Sleeping student mistaken for squatter

9:21 p.m. €" A faculty member reported a vagrant sleeping in the spine between the Rasmuson Hall and Wells Fargo Sports Complex. The two responding UPD officers determined the subject was a student, who said she was resting, and advised her to be out of the building by closing time.

Reality bumper cars

10:44 p.m. €" A resident reported two drivers voluntarily running their cars into each other in the Templewood parking lot. The two responding UPD officers determined neither vehicles had been damaged and the drivers were not injured.
