What better way to help others than by enjoying yourself with friends and music? On Oct. 25, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, along with Student Activities and charities Nine Star, United Way and Americorps, is sponsoring a New York relief concert with music group Saturday Night Peoples.
The concert will be in the Campus Center from 7-9 p.m. Admission is $2 for students with a valid I.D. and $4 for general admission.
Saturday Night Peoples is a local pop-rock band. Lead singer Timothy Johnson got the band involved after he was approached by Nine-Star co-worker Rosemary Williams. Williams started to collaborate with Nine-Star, Americorps and United Way to put on a benefit concert after news of the New York devastation was engulfing America's attention. After booking the band, the next step was to find a venue. Williams called around and Student Activities agreed to help put the concert on at the university. Sigma Alpha Epsilon got involved too, and next Thursday Greek life offers entertainment with a deeper, moral purpose.
The money raised will go to the United Way relief fund for New York.
