Local boutiques offer variety and function

Boutiques have been on the rise in Anchorage in recent years, with even the "SoNo" district being officially recognized by the Municipality. But boutiques offer more than just a place to find new threads. They bring diversity, uniqueness and attitude to the local shopping industry and contribute to the local color of Anchorage.
She Boutique

Contemporary and savvy can describe the clotheslines at She boutique. Located off of Fifth Avenue in the heart of downtown, She is owned and operated by the mother-daughter duo of Tina Briley and Aspen Raney.
She opened last April and appeals mostly to women who are between the ages of 20 and 50. She Boutique's carries brands like Nanette Lepore and Betsey Johnson so expect to pay a little more. The boutique is in the process of bringing in more affordable items and expanding their inventory to include more jeans, gift items, and hair accessories.
"It is definitely for a stylish woman," said Raney.
In October, She is planning to team up with five other boutiques and having a fashion show in the new downtown convention center.
Out of the Closet

Coiming literally 'Out of the Closet', Out of the Closet is a Consignment boutique that means all their items they sell, except for their jewelry, has been previously owned. They consign clothes, handbags and, shoes.
Out of the Closet is apart of the SONO district. The SONO district means all the boutiques south of Nordstroms. These Boutiques include Blush, and About Face.
"We do a lot of joint advertising, have a lot of parties and promotions and things together," said owner Ellen Arvold.

For this Boutique, The name says it all. The Clothesline Consignment boutique consigns clothes and items that are given to them by the Anchorage community. Consigns mean that they take the clothes and re-sell them. After the clothes are re- sold the original owner gets 50 percent of what the item sold for.
