Green & Gold match displays potential

VOLLEYBALL

Seawolf spikers took to the courts Saturday evening for the annual Green & Gold Scrimmage, which sees the team split in two and playing each other. The event ended with a 2–2 tie.

The Seawolves are returning nine players this year, including seniors Kasey Kuelper, Kirsten Hunley, O’Lita McWilliams, Starr Burgan and Michelle Garvin. The team also welcomed four freshmen and sophomore newcomer Diana Gordon.

Garvin and Katina Ozrelic, both from the Green team, were the forerunners of the evening, with 14 kills each, while Gold team member Mindy Cason followed close behind with 13 kills.

The Seawolves start their official season on the road next week, with four matches at the Canyon Court Classic in Phoenix, Ariz., Aug. 29–30.

 

GNAC puts UAA volleyball at fifth

A preseason poll by conference coaches picked Seawolf Volleyball to finish fifth out of ten teams in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for the 2003 season. In front of UAA was defending champion Western Washington, Alaska Fairbanks, Seattle University and Central Washington.

UAA finished fourth in the conference during the 2002 season.
