Cheseto breaks records at Mt. SAC

UAA sophomore Marko Cheseto will be participating in two events at the Div. II NCAA Championships after qualifying automatically in the 10,000 meter race at the prestigious 51st Annual Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday evening.
Cheseto won his heat with a blazing time of 29 minutes, 8.28 seconds, breaking UAA’s record and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference record – both previously held by Sean Rivers, a Seawolf alumni (30.21.65). He finished 10th overall, easily passing the automatic qualifying time for Nationals (29:45.00).
Cheseto’s record-breaking time bypasses the current GNAC top performer, John Riak of Saint Martin’s University, who led the conference with a time of 31:04.33.
Cheseto had previously qualified for the NCAAs in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:02.45-also a GNAC record.
