Meet the Seawolf: Steve White

What brought you here to UAA all the way back in 2008? My brother (Kevin) was here and he had been here for a year...

Seawolves tighten up defense, stomp pair of foes

There was a common theme this past week during the UAA Women’s Basketball games against Northwest Nazarene on Jan. 26 and against Central Washington on Jan. 28.

Meet the Seawolf: Haley Holmstead

UAA junior guard Haley Holmstead seems to have this whole scoring thing down pretty well. A two-time Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Year at Salt Lake Community College, Holmstead was billed as one of the premier offensive threats in the national community college ranks.

UAA Women using lengthy homestand to get back to basics

After spending a large portion of the holiday season away from Anchorage, the red-hot UAA Women’s Basketball team finally has the chance to get off the road and enjoy the comforts of home for a change. A rare four-game homestand in the middle of their league schedule offers the Seawolves both a chance to settle into the start of semester as well as put a bit of distance between themselves and other GNAC foes who are looking to catch UAA atop the conference standings.

Canaan, Racers take Shootout crown

Give Isaiah Canaan the key to the city of Anchorage. He owns this town after his display in the 2011 Great Alaska Shootout Championship game that lifted the Murray State Racers to a thrilling 90-81 win in double overtime over the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. Canaan would finish with a tournament-high 36 points, eight rebounds and four assists in 45 minutes of play. The junior guard shot 11 of 22 from the field, as well as 6 of 11 from beyond the arc. The Biloxi, Mississippi native also hit all of his eight attempts from the free throw line.

Meet the Seawolf: Mario Gill

Mario Gill is known for being on the basketball team and is often found on the court whether it’s at practice or in a game. Off the court, he’s a smooth talking, fun, out-going guy who knows everyone’s name. In the gym, he’s determined and focused, but when he’s not “on the clock,” he loves to have fun, relax and listen to music. The-21-year old hails from Portland, Oregon and has played for Wilson High School. In 2008, he was named Portland Interscholastic League’s Player of the Year, and also participated in the Les Schwab Northwest Shootout.

Seawolves receive two Division I transfers who bring big games, aspirations with them

The UAA Men’s Basketball had a busy offseason and it could pay big dividends come March this upcoming season when they make the push for supremacy in both the GNAC conference and West Region playoffs. One year being removed from a team that made it to the GNAC championship and 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament, the Seawolves stocked up on more talent by adding two players who bring Division-I experience with them.
