Buzzer beater by UAF ends UAA winning streak

In what was a tightly contested basketball game, the Nanooks of Fairbanks ended a 16-game losing streak against the Seawolves of Anchorage, with a final score of 68 to 70.

Junior guard Travis Thompson and senior guard Kyle Fossman both led the Seawolves in scoring with 15 points each. Nanooks senior forward Andrew Kelly scored a layup with one second left on the clock, giving UAF the victory over UAA.

This was the final basketball game of the regular season for UAA. The Seawolves ended the season ranked fourth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings and two games behind UAF. UAF finished the regular season ranked third in the GNAC.

The next time the UAA men’s basketball team will take the court will be against Western Oregon at Langley, Wash., in the opening round of the GNAC conference tournament. The Seawolves beat Western Oregon in both games of the regular season. UAA beat Western Oregon 92-58 in their first meeting of the season and 96-77 in their second meeting.
