Bryan tabbed gymnasts’ Team MVP

stefani bryanANCHORAGE – Sophomore Stefany Bryan was named the Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team’s 2014 MVP on Thursday night as the Seawolves celebrated with their year-end banquet at Lone Star Steakhouse.

Bryan was an NCAA Div. I West Regional Championships all-around qualifier and earned All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors in the all-around and on uneven bars. The Seattle (Roosevelt HS/Seattle Gymnastics Academy) native competed all-around 10 times, averaging 37.548 and producing a career-high of 38.475 on Feb. 16. Bryan’s 9.584 bars average ranked 10th-best in program history, and she also made the MPSF All-Academic Team with an overall grade-point average of 3.75.

Redshirt freshman Julia York took home the Most Improved Gymnast award, while junior Sariaye Jensen – who redshirted this year – and sophomore Simone Penker shared Most Inspirational Gymnast honors.

Awards were also given for the highest individual averages on each apparatus, with York taking the prize on vault (9.643), Bryan on bars, junior captain Morgan Cook on balance beam (9.609) and local freshman Kallie Randolphon floor exercise (9.682).
