In light of recent events, the University of Alaska Anchorage cancelled the annual Tom Besh Homestead Hill Run, scheduled for Sep. 16.
The race, which is a fundraiser for the UAA's cross-country running program, will not be rescheduled.
UAA Athletic Director Steve Cobb supported the decision to cancel the race. Cobb says the Besh family understands the situation.
“They've been very understanding. Out of respect for the victim's and families of Americans who have been affected by Tuesday's tragic events we are canceling the race.”
Cross-country running coach Michael Friess says that refunds for those who've already registered for the run can call his office at 786-1325 for refund information.
The race honors Tom Besh, UAA's head ski coach from 1977-90. He won the Seward Mount Marathon race three times and is a member of the inaugural Seawolf Hall of Fame class of 2001. He died in an airplane accident in 1993.
