PORTLAND, Ore. – Alaska Anchorage’s Karolin Anders and Cody Thomas were selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Field Athletes of the Week, following their record-breaking performances at the Mondo Multi.
Thomas, a junior from, Blenheim, New Zealand, earned scored a UAA-record 6,940 points to finish second in the decathlon on April 11. Thomas’ score is the second highest in GNAC history and currently ranks sixth nationally in Division II. Among his marks was a long jump of 22-11 ¼, which ranks second this spring in the GNAC.
Anders, from Berlin, Germany, scored a UAA-record 5,048 points to win the heptathlon. The sophomore is the seventh athlete to score 5,000 or more points in Division II this spring. Anders’ score also ranks fifth in GNAC history. Among her marks was a GNAC season-best and a NCAA national qualifying long jump of 18-10.5 – that is the 10th longest long jump in GNAC history.
