Virtus Unita performs classical guitar music at UAA

Giovanni Demartini and Roland Stearns of Virtus Unita performed at the UAA Fine Arts Recital Hall on March 25. The duo’s origins in music stems from European classical music for the guitar. Stearns, who is a classical guitarist and lutist, is a term member of the UAA music faculty; Demartini is the founder of a major guitar festival in his home town of Cervia, Italy. He is also a member of Italy’s oldest orchestra for plucked instruments. The duo invited their students to perform with them, including UAA guitar majors Jason Burnett and Scott Fitzpatrick.

SU Gallery gets 3-D for art show

The Student Union Gallery will have its First Friday reception for the 3D Invitational art exhibition on April 4. The exhibit presents three-dimensional work of UAA art students, selected by art faculty in sculpture, ceramics, fibers and metalsmithing. The First Friday reception will be from 5-7 p.m. Spring hours for the Student Union Gallery are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

KRUA hosts ‘Sweet 16’ birthday bash

Supporters and members of UAA’s college radio station KRUA The Edge 88.1 FM celebrated the past 16 years of the station’s achievements in the Professional Studies Building on March 28. The event was broadcast live while guests were entertained with studio tours, cake and live music from Stray Dogma. The event also offered historical highlights of the station, as well as opportunities available at KRUA.
