For the first time, UAA students will get a special deal from the Alaska Aces hockey team: two-for-one tickets to Friday home games. Students must bring their student ID to the Aces office at the corner of 15th and Gambell to receive the deal. Students are limited to two free tickets per Friday game. The two-for-one deal is good throughout the entire Aces’ season.
The Aces regular season games starts Oct. 29 against the San Diego Gulls.
Brendan Desjardin, director of ticket sales, says the Aces have been considering doing a promotion geared at UAA students for several seasons.
“We have considered a few other promotions, but this is the first solid promotion we have had for university students,” Desjardins said.
Anna Bosco, senior ticket executive for the Aces, predicts a season with record attendance and fierce hockey.
“As an organization, we are going to have a stellar year,” Bosco says. “Look forward to lots of great promotions and most importantly, great hockey.”
George Sandoval, vice president of sales and marketing, is excited about giving UAA student an affordable way to see the Aces.
“We want to embrace the university and its students,” Sandoval says. “They love hockey!”
The Aces have more than just good deals for UAA students this season.
“The Aces will have magnetic schedules, thunder sticks and other giveaways,” says Bosco. “It promises to be a fun season.”
Other promotions coming back this year are Chuck-a-Puck, a promotion in which fans purchase pucks and throw them on center ice for prozes, and Skate with the Aces, an event that allows fans the chance to get on the ice with the players. However, the two-for-one deal for UAA is of greatest interest to the college crowd.
“We are hoping more UAA students will attend games this year,” Bosco says. “The two- for-one deal is a great way for financially-strapped college students to see some great hockey.”
