A New Hope

What an interesting year it’s been! It’s been stressful and crazy, wonderful and terrible all at the same time, and then some. But with all the different adjectives we could use to describe the year, we can all definitely say one thing: we are all glad its over!

TulsiThe end of a school year is always bittersweet. While there are many nights of stress-eating and emotional outbursts over impending deadlines that you’d probably want to forget, there are also great memories made over the year that you wish weren’t coming to an end.

But the end of one year always gives me a sense of hope for the next. It’s a new start for everyone. For me, the end of this semester marks the end of my first stint as the managing editor here at The Northern Light. It was a tough semester with a lot of hard work and tough deadlines. As sad as I am to see so many of our wonderful hardworking staff leave us this year as they graduate, the end of this year fills me with a sense of hope, both for them, and for those of us left at the paper.

The upcoming 2014-15 school year brings with it promising prospects for the paper and we at The Northern Light are very excited with what the new year entails. We hope to build our online presence and work on developing a bigger and better website. A big project we hope to work on this year is a smartphone app for student media that would provide students to direct access to both the student radio station KRUA as well as The Northern Light.

As a journalist and as Managing Editor, one thing I would like to stress upon for the future is student participation in the paper. I urge students to participate more with the paper as contributors and staff. The work experience is definitely valuable and the personal growth I have experienced as a journalist, in just 3 short months, makes every moment worth it!

We just want to say a big thank you to all of you students, staff, faculty and the whole community at large for being such excellent patrons of the paper. It’s been a great year and we hope to keep up the momentum this coming year. Thank you so much for your support and we promise to keep working as hard as we can to bring out a good paper every week.

Congratulations on finishing off the school year everyone! From the staff of The Northern Light, we wish you the very best of luck and hope for the next year!
